Sternal closure systems are used to close the sternum or breastbone after sternal reconstructive surgery. The system is also used to repair and stabilise the anterior chest wall and to promote fusion.
The rising prevalence of cardiovascular diseases is a major factor driving demand for sternal closure systems. According to a 2015 report by the American Heart Association (AHA), approximately 84 million people in the United States suffered from some form of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in 2017, and approximately 130 million adults, representing more than 45% of the country's population, are expected to suffer from at least one CVD by 2035. Furthermore, the introduction of novel devices to achieve tight closure and stable union at the Sternal Closure Systems for patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery is expected to increase.
