Synthetic Fibers Like Spandex Have A Unique Elasticity Due To Their Lightweight, Smooth Nature
Spandex

Spandex is an elastic fibre with a break extension of more than 200% and quick recovery after tension is relaxed. The brand name "Lycra" is applied to spandex fibres produced by DuPont in the USA. Because it is made of polyurethane, an elastic polymer with the same degree of stretch as rubber, spandex is also known as elastomeric fibre. "A produced fibre in which the fibre forming component is a long-chain synthetic polymer composed of at least 85% segmented polyurethane," is how spandex fibre is defined.

A synthetic fibre recognised for its extraordinary elasticity is called Spandex, lycra, or elastane. It is composed of polyurethane, a long-chain polymer formed by reacting polyester with diisocyanate. Due to its advantages to rubber's strength and durability, spandex immediately became popular. In compared to rubber, spandex is more resistant to dry heat and oil. Spandex offers an unmatched level of comfort and wicking properties that are not present in the same degree in any other fabric.
