Insecticides, biocides, and other pesticides are used to protect people and animals, preserve goods, and prevent insects from spreading disease.
Biocides Market

In accordance with European law, a biocide is any chemical compound or microorganism that has the purpose of destroying, discouraging, rendering harmless, or otherwise controlling any dangerous organism. Biocides are defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as "a diverse group of poisonous substances, including preservatives, insecticides, disinfectants, and pesticides used for the control of organisms that are harmful to human or animal health or that cause damage to natural or manufactured products" in a slightly different way. The two definitions are similar when compared, despite the US EPA definition including several veterinary medications and plant protection agents.

Both "biocides" and "pesticides" are frequently used interchangeably with "plant protection products."
