Another option for females seeking permanent sterilisation is the non-invasive Essure surgery. In this method, a soft coil implant is inserted into each fallopian tube using a flexible, illuminated device called a hysteroscope. To access the tubes, the device is introduced through the vagina and uterus and connected to a camera to visualise tissues and direct implant placement. The coils are extended after being put in place to restrict the tubes. Hemostats surrounds the implants over time, and after three to six months, the blocking is complete and the implants are permanently sterilised. Only local anaesthetic is needed for the surgery.
